Where Do Workplace Rights Come From?
As a union member, your workplace rights come from a number of different sources. One such source is your union contract. Think of it this way: just as society has laws that everyone lives by, passed by legislatures, your workplace, too, has its book of statutes: the collective bargaining agreement.
Contracts are of varying lengths. Some have a duration of as little as one year, some can go for ten, but most tend to run for several years or so. No matter how long a contract is in effect, it stands as the law of the workplace.
