Member Benefits
The Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council is one of the eight subsidiaries of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, representing over 40 labor unions and 40,000 members across Massachusetts’ Southcoast, Cape, and Islands. As one of the most active labor councils in Massachusetts, we take pride in being a powerful force within the labor movement.
While the Labor Council is currently looking to expand its capabilities and programs, there are many benefits to joining the Labor Council. The benefits of joining the labor council include:
The opportunity to network with delegates of over 40 unions, representing over 46,000 members across the Southcoast, Cape, and Islands
The use of our own in-house organizers at a heavily subsidized rate
The use of our New Bedford office space for meetings and contract negotiations
The opportunity to network/lobby with state reps and state senators in a formal setting at our annual legislative breakfast and informally at our Holiday Christmas party
Access to classes and workshops (labor history, how to be a shop steward, contract negotiation, etc.) taught by the Labor Education Center
Young worker-delegate leadership development through a burgeoning Young Workers Program
AND most importantly to be apart of a coalition of labor unions and organizations whose mission is to grow to support working families and the labor movement and solidarity in southeastern Massachusetts
